is a waterfront lodge and B&B in the Rio Grande Valley
of deep South Texas,
  and a haven for birders!

As the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas rises in prominence among serious birders, Kingfisher Inn -- a waterfront lodge on the Arroyo Colorado -- provides birders with rich opportunities for sighting rare and unusual birds. Located in Arroyo City -- only a mile from the boundary of Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge and only 20 miles from Harlingen International Airport -- Kingfisher Inn is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the outstanding birding opportunities in the lower Rio Grande Valley.

Many of our guests increase their life lists by 50 or more birds by visiting the various refuges in the area, including Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, Sabal Palm Grove Santuary, Adolph Thomae Jr. County Park (located here in Arroyo City) and Bentsen Rio Grande Valley State Park.

"We had such a fantastic time at Kingfisher Inn.   The birding was fantastic!  You had so many different species.  We saw 18 life birds over a three-day period without leaving the comfort of your back yard.  The water birds we saw along the shore while on the boat were just unequal to anything we've seen before."  Tom & Debbi Adams

Within a 12-mile radius of Kingfisher Inn, 325 species of birds can be sighted. Not suprisingly, sighting opportunities on our own back porch can rival the
best
venues in the area. We feed our birds every day with grain mixes and fresh fruit, in order to attract as many resident and migratory species as possible. Popular daily visitors include Altamira Orioles, Green Jays, Black Bellied Whistling Ducks, Greater Kiskadees, Rio Grande Turkeys and so much more. We also have regular sightings of all three Kingfishers -- the ringed, belted, and green.
